DC x SSUR III x SSUR WR

THE CONCEPT
“An Eye for an Eye Leaves the Whole World Blind”—that’s the ominous warning running throughout SSUR’s third project with DC. When designing the first half of the project, SSUR III, the artist featured a military thematic as a cautionary tale against war. Earthy and dark greens, blacks and browns set off orange color hits. As with all the other Artist Projects™ he’s done with DC so far, “PAY ME” is stamped across the lace holders. The Russian born Ruslan Karablin, better known in the art/design world as “SSUR”, has been a constant in the NYC downtown art scene for more than 15 years. Growing up in Coney Island, NY, SSUR entered the New York scene as an outside artist with no formal training. Three main subjects; sex, politics and protest have heavily influenced the SSUR aesthetic.

SSUR III
The first shoe, SSUR III, features a military thematic. Earthy and dark greens, blacks and browns set off the “warning orange” color hits. Full grain leather.

SSUR WR
The second half of the project, the SSUR WR, features a variety of warfare camouflages. Each panel of the shoes upper features a different unqiue camo.

DC x SSUR WR Artist Projects

The NYC-based artist SSUR patched together unique camouflage prints from around the globe to represent war between the first, second and third worlds. Sure, no one wants to think about war the day before Election Day, but by the time these release hopefully we’ll all be a little more psyched about who’s controlling our foreign policy. On the December 1 the shoes will hiz selected DC retailers.

The military jacket combines signature patchwork with a removable fur hood and custom printed taffeta lining. This Rose Artist Project collection is now available at finer DC retailers worldwide.
